A JUDGE RIPPED into a Brooklyn baby killer Friday before sentencing him to 16 years in prison for the shaking death of his 2-year-old stepdaughter.

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Deborah Dowling said David Adams, 28, should never have been allowed to spend time with slain Thaiya SpruillSmith — or any other child.

“You and the person who is not here were that child’s worst nightmare when you should have been her protectors,” said Dowling, who was also referring to the girl’s mother Theoca Spruill-Adams.

“Neither one of you is fit to raise a pet, let alone a child.”

Adams (photo right) pleaded guilty to manslaughter for shaking little Thaiya so violently her body went limp.

The baby’s mother told police she called 911 the next morning — Nov. 13, breathe.

Thaiya was rushed to Brookdale Hospital, where she was found to be braindead.

Doctors removed her from life support the next day.

The city medical examiner determined the cause of death to be abusive head trauma. Thaiya’s mother was not charged. Adams’ lawyer said it was the mother — not the stepdad — who killed Thaiya.

“The mother should be locked up,” said defense lawyer Peter Guadagnino.

“He found her unconscious and was terrified. He shook the child to try and get a response out of her. He had no idea that it would do damage like that.”

Theoca Spruill-Adams could not be reached for comment.
