Plane-crash body found

- Rich Schapiro

A THIRD BODY was recovered from the wreckage of a private plane that crashed off Long Island’s East End, killing a prominent builder and three others.

The unidentified victim was found Friday, six days after a twin-engine Piper Navajo plunged into the ocean off East Hampton.

Divers located the bodies of Bernard and Bonnie Krupinski, both 70, last week.

Bernard Krupinski was a wellknown local contractor who built palatial homes for celebrities like Martha Stewart and Billy Joel.

The Krupinskis’ grandson William Maerov, 22, and pilot Jon Dollard, 47, were missing and presumed dead.

East Hampton Police Chief Michael Sarlo did not identify the newly recovered body. He said the plane was located in water at a depth of 45 feet, and that the visibility in the area is just 3 to 5 feet.

Word of the discovery came hours after hundreds of mourners, including Stewart, streamed into an East Hampton church to bid farewell to the members of the Krupinski family.
