Tough talk from Don on summit

- Denis Slattery

PRESIDENT Trump is “confident” about his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and said on Saturday he would know within a minute whether something good will come of the Singapore sitdown.

Trump, who spent less than 24 hours in talks with allies at the annual G7 summit in Quebec, Canada, described his upcoming parley with Kim as a “mission of peace.”

“I think within the first minute I’ll know. Just my touch, my feel. That’s what I do,” Trump said before boarding Air Force One. “And if I think it won’t happen, I’m not going to waste my time. I don’t want to waste his time.”

Trump added that he was confident about Kim’s intentions, despite wading into what he called “unknown territory.”

“He could take that nation with those great people and truly make it great, so it’s a one-time, it’s a one-time shot, and I think it’s going to work out very well,” Trump said. “That’s why I feel positive, because it makes so much sense.”

The June 12 summit in Singapore will center around the U.S. demands that North Korea abandon a nuclear weapons program that Pyongyang claims has the capability to reach American shores.
