Vienna eyed for summit with Vlad

- Denis Slattery

KREMLIN OFFICIALS are publicly floating Vienna as a possible venue for a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Trump.

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Saturday that the pair of presidents discussed “the need for such a meeting” and the Austrian capital was mentioned as a possible locale in their most recent phone call.

Trump’s openness toward positive relations with the Kremlin stirred controversy Friday as he suggested the G7 offer a seat at the table to Russia, which was ousted from the group after it annexed Crimea in 2014.

The President doubled down on Saturday, saying that re-admitting Russia to the elite cadre of countries would be “an asset.”

“We’re looking for peace in the world,” Trump said. “We're not looking to play games."

Putin, in China over the weekend for a regional security summit, also said that it was time for Trump to keep his campaign promise of forging a friendlier relationship between the two countries.
