Thanks to the explosion of content providers and the seductive appeal of binge-watching, there are plenty of intriguing new shows launching between now and Labor Day. Leaving aside the Aug. 19 premiere of guilty pleasure “Sharknado 6” on Syfy, here are 10 series you might want to check out. Some are making their debut, some kicking off new seasons, and one is signing off.

Kevin Costner stars as John Dutton, owner of a mega-ranch that’s a flashpoint for battles over billiondollar land, oil and mineral rights. Not to mention Native American rights, National Park controversies, poisoned water and, well, you get the idea. Call it a 21st century Western.

Mike Colter’s stoic Luke Cage got his own series two years ago, and immediately was called away to join the Defenders in saving the world. Now he’s back on his own, more or less, and he just wants to live a nice quiet post-superhero life in Harlem. Good luck with that, Luke. You don’t have to be a war buff to be riveted by the human stories told in these ultra-rare color films shot during World War II in the Pacific. These are the soldiers who won a war that had to be won.

It’s no knock on “Empire” to say that “Power,” which launches its fifth season this summer, is TV’s most intense and addictive drama about the intersection of music, popular culture and crime. Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikura play the ruthless guys at the center, and they’re matched by the lead women, played by Lela Loren and Naturi Naughton.
