5th-tallest bldg. in city now at WTC
GROUND ZERO’S newest skyscraper is ready for its closeup.
Three World Trade Center will formally open its doors in lower Manhattan on Monday, after a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by developer Larry Silverstein.
The 80-story skyscraper is the fourth of five buildings on the 16-acre World Trade Center campus. The tower is the secondtallest building on the site, after 1 World Trade Center, also known as the Freedom Tower, and the fifth highest in the city.
The $2.5 billion building — with floor-to-ceiling glass — will be used to house commercial and retail tenants. It’s 38% leased.
Major tenants include advertising firm GroupM, financial company IEX and powerhouse consulting group McKinsey & Co.
The skyscraper was built with a a 3-foot-thick concrete core that was installed before steel columns were inserted. It was designed by architect Richard Rogers and his firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.
