Friendly showdown

- BY JUSTIN TASCH

LUIS Severino lobbed some playful trash talk toward former teammate Todd Frazier, who threw some right back at him. Frazier got the last word with his bat.

After Severino chirped at Frazier for the way he reached out on a third-inning single, Frazier homered off Severino in the fifth inning, a two-run blast that accounted for all the runs in the Mets’ 2-0 victory over the Yankees Sunday night.

“You’re playing against your buddies. I was trying to get (in) Severino’s head,” Frazier said. “He’s a great pitcher, I was just trying to find a way to get after him.”

“He was making fun of me for the single. I said, ‘I’ll take that every day of the week,’” Frazier added.

At another point, there were some expletives thrown into the mix, all in good fun. “I just told him, ‘I’m gonna be on you all day, baby. Be ready.’ That kind of stuff,” Frazier said.

The Mets still aren’t scoring enough runs, desperate for the return of Yoenis
