Grenade scare at court
What a dud!
An intern with the mental health clinic at Queens Criminal Court caused a 90-minute courthouse evacuation Thursday after bringing what looked like a grenade, in a gift box, through a metal detector.
The NYPD Bomb Squad shut down Queens Blvd. and cleared the building until it could determine there was no danger.
“Someone said it looked like a perfume bottle, but you never know with these things,” said Dennis Quirk, president of the Supreme Court Officers Association. Police described it as a novelty gift.
The intern triggered alarms going through security at the courthouse on Queens Blvd. at 82nd Ave. in Kew Gardens.
The suspect was not immediately charged.
