Oprah, Apple to create content together
Oprah Winfrey is joining forces with yet another major media company.
The longtime entertainer has inked a multiyear deal with Apple as part of the corporation’s growing effort to create more content.
“Together, Winfrey and Apple will create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world,” Apple said in a statement Friday.
The announcement from Apple did not go into specifics about what exactly Winfrey will be doing, but the company did note her projects “will be released as part of a lineup of original content.”
Winfrey, 64, is the latest high-profile addition for Apple as it strives to compete with other major content providers such as Amazon and Netflix.
Apple reached a deal last October to bring back Steven Spielberg’s fantasy and horror series “Amazing Stories,” which originally aired from 1985-87. The company also came to terms this year with two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant to develop a story based on his childhood.
The partnership with Apple is the latest major media move for Winfrey, who, in addition to her many years as a talk show host, launched the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) in 2011 and joined the long-running CBS newsmagazine show “60 Minutes” as a special contributor last year.
