YANKS GAME DAY

- BY JUSTIN TASCH

It seems the Yankees have an endless supply of young players in the minors who can be called upon to provide a big-league worthy performance when needed, even if he leapfrogs Triple-A.

Jonathan Loaisiga, the 23-year-old righty whom the Yankees brought up from Double-A Trenton to fill in for the injured Masahiro Tanaka, tossed five shutout innings in his MLB debut, earning his first career win.

Loaisiga — who on the video board at the Stadium said people who don’t know how to pronounce his name call him “Lasagna” — allowed three hits and four walks while striking out six.

Over 10 starts in the minors this season, Loaisiga had a total of four walks in 45 innings. But he ran into some trouble with free passes in the Bronx. He walked one batter in each of the first three innings before allowing his first hit with one out in the fourth. He worked himself into a bases-loaded situation with a two-out walk but struck out Christian Arroyo with a slider.

Gary Sanchez hit a two-out double with the bases loaded in the eighth, scoring three, to give the Yankees some insurance.

The Yankees (45-20) have won 12 out of their last 15 games.
