NEW YORK SET TO SIZZLE:

Health Dept. warning as temps surge as high as 95 today

- BY BRITTANY GIBSON AND ELIZABETH ELIZALDE

Get set to sweat.

Monday will be a scorcher that’ll require sunscreen, air conditioning and other precautions and comforts as the temperature heads for a possible record high.

You know the drill for dog days like this one: Avoid strenuous outdoor exercise and stay hydrated as temperatures head up.

The state’s Health Department and Department of Environmental Conservation issued a weather advisory for New York City, the Lower Hudson Valley and Long Island for 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday.

AccuWeather says the high could hit 95.

“With prolonged heat and humidity in the forecast, I urge New Yorkers to take necessary steps to stay cool,” said Gov. Cuomo.

“I encourage everyone to check on your friends and neighbors who may need some extra help, and to cool off at state parks, pools and cooling centers.”

New Yorkers on Sunday sought to escape the heat with a dip in the ocean at Rockaway Beach in Queens.

“I just want to enjoy the weather, go in the water, relax and make myself feel like I’m on vacation,” beachgoer Adam Diaz said.

“I’ve been wanting to come to the beach. It was nice out. I had the day off.”

He said Sunday was the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the good weather. “I’m tired of winter,” Diaz added.

A group of cousins came prepared with boogie boards, a soccer ball and a blue beach umbrella.

“We’re just gonna chill out, listen to some really great music and swim in the beach,” one of the cousins, Amer, 15, said.

For William Corning, “it was the best day” to bond with his son. “We live here and it’s Father’s Day, so we wanted to spend the day, me and him,” Corning said.

“We went boogie boarding and then I built a sand castle with my dad,” added his son, William Jr.

Because of high ozone levels, people with asthma should consider limiting their outdoor activity, said officials.

Con Edison said its crews are ready for any power outages, and that people should set their air conditioners to the “highest comfortable temperature.”
