3 potential Nets picks
After managing to trade back into the first round as part of taking on DeMarre Carroll’s contract from the Raptors last year, the Nets will hope to find a diamond in the rough with the 29th pick. Here are three players they could potentially pick:
MOE WAGNER
Position: PF/C
Age: 20 Height: 6-11 School: Michigan
The upside: The Nets attempted the second-most threes in the league last year. Wagner would fit in with their offensive scheme nicely, providing both long-range shooting and length as a stretch four or five.
The downside: He lacks the athleticism to thrive defensively in the NBA. The Nets need to improve in that area after finishing 24th last season in defensive rating, which is points allowed per 100 possessions.
JOSH OKOGIE
Position: SG/SF
Age: 19 Height: 6-4 School: Georgia Tech
The upside: He projects as a prototypical three-and-D wing player in today’s NBA. Shot over 38% from threepoint range in his two-year college career and brings elite athleticism to the defensive end. Tied for the highest vertical jump at the combine (42 inches).
The downside: He’s a little undersized for a modern NBA wing — though what he lacks in height he could probably make up for with a seven-foot wingspan.
ANFERNEE SIMONS
Position: G Age: 19 Height: 6-2 School: IMG Academy (high school)
The upside: He’s a combo guard who can shoot from deep and offers a versatile offensive game.
The downside: He declared for the NBA Draft after spending a post-graduate year at IMG, so he hasn’t faced the physicality of the college game, or the pro game abroad. His body isn’t NBA ready and will need time to develop.
