MetroCard machines fail in latest MTA crash

- Dan Rivoli

MetroCard vending machines citywide went on the fritz during the Monday morning rush hour, refusing to accept credit or debit cards.

Frustrated commuters who needed to add money or time to their cards found themselves unable to get to work if they didn’t have cash.

“Hey @MTA @NYGovCuomo your s--t’s all busted and none of the machines at the Prospect Park station are able to process payments,” straphanger James Grebey tweeted. “Cool f--kin’ transit system, idiots.”

The MTA sent out a tweet at 9 a.m. alerting riders that machines were cash-only and promised they were working "fast and furiously to get this issue resolved."

The MTA on its social media feed told riders to ask a station agent to access the station.

It took the MTA about 15 minutes to fix the problem.
