METS GAMEDAY

GAME 79: June 29, 2018 Where: Miami

- BY KRISTIE ACKERT

MIAMI — The last time the Mets were in Miami, everything was going right. They rallied after getting no-hit for eight innings and completed a sweep of the Marlins and went home with a 3.5 game lead in the division. The Mets returned to Marlins Park this weekend as a team with nothing going the right for them any longer.

That was certainly the case Friday. Hours before the game, Mets ace Jacob deGrom was a last-minute scratch, having to take care of some family issues. While the right-hander is expected to be back and ready to take the mound today, the Mets reeled without him.

Prospect Corey Oswalt gave up six runs in the third inning as the Mets lost, 8-2, in front of a “crowd” of 8,211 at Marlins Park.

The Mets (32-47) have lost two straight and 21 of their last 26. They dropped to a season-worst 15 games under .500. They have the fewest wins in the National League and are just a game ahead of the Marlins (33-50) for fourth place in the division. In April, the Mets ended their first road trip of the year in Miami, leaving with a record of 10-1. After peaking at 11-1 on April 13, it's been all downhill. The Mets went 22-45 between meetings with the Marlins.

Oswalt, rushed into making his first major league start, allowed six runs on six hits and two walks and struck out one in 2.2 innings.
