Detective busted in stalk of ex & vic’s hubby
Incessant text messages, chasing, stalking, human waste at her doorstep, a Brooklyn woman endured eight months of hell at the hands of her ex-lover — an NYPD detective, authorities said.
Detective Lori Campbell, 51, a former aide to Chief of Department Terence Monahan, was arrested in Brooklyn at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
"This defendant used her high ranking position as a detective at 1 Police Plaza to bully and intimidate the complaint witness and her husband," Assistant District Attorney Adriana Rodriguez said at Campbell's arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court on Tuesday.
Campbell and the 50-yearold victim became friends in 2004, and eventually became lovers. The woman broke up with the veteran cop to marry a man, prosecutors said.
In September, Campbell started stalking her former flame, sent her 2,400 unwanted text messages and used an unmarked police car to follow her and her 37-yearold husband, prosecutors said.
On Dec. 19, Campbell attacked the woman, which led to the victim being hospitalized to repair her pacemaker, prosecutors alleged in court.
On Feb. 10, the harassment rose to a disgusting, unsanitary level. Campbell allegedly spray painted a security camera outside the couple's home and tossed urine on their front door.
The woman's husband chased Campbell — who had a spray can and a mask — until she ran out of breath, authorities said. DNA on the mask matched Campbell, prosecutors explained.
Campbell also allegedly used an NYPD database to run 10 searches on the pair — a serious violation of department rules.
She continued to follow the victims, even after she was suspended, stripped of her guns and placed on desk duty on Feb. 20, Rodriguez said.
Campbell's attorney, Marissa Gillespie, entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.
“My client has been a decorated NYPD officer for 18 years without incident. Lived in Brooklyn for 40 years and has a daughter in grad school. She will fight these charges,” said Gillespie. In a 19-count indictment, Campbell is charged with stalking, official misconduct, making graffiti, criminal mischief and assault.
Two orders of protection were issued by the judge, who released Campbell on her own recognizance.
