Cuomo not the only Dem keeping Trump money

- BY KENNETH LOVETT

ALBANY – Gov. Cuomo is not the only critic of President Trump in New York who is in no hurry to return previous campaign donations from him.

Trump, when he was just a famous real estate developer, donated to a bevy of New York Democrats and Republicans, which he has said he did to curry favor from elected officials.

But his donations to Democrats like Cuomo have again come under scrutiny after Cynthia Nixon this week called on the governor, her Democratic primary opponent, to return the $64,000 he received from Trump between 2001 and 2009. He refused, while saying he will continue to attack the President.

The state Democratic Party also received $66,000 from Trump between 2002 and 2008, records show. While officials did not return calls for comment, it’s unlikely the money will be returned since the party is controlled by Cuomo.

The state Senate Democrats received $10,600 from Trump, with the last donation coming in 2009.

Senate Democratic spokesman Mike Murphy said the donations were raised under a previous administration and has long since been spent.

The Manhattan Democratic Party received a combined $2,000 from the future President in 2006 and 2008.

Manhattan Democratic Party Chairman Keith Wright said he became leader in 2009 and was unaware of the contributions. Nonetheless, he won’t return or donate the money.

Two current Long Island members of Congress, Tom Suozzi and Kathleen Rice, each received money from Trump in their old jobs as Nassau County executive and Nassau County district attorney, respectively.
