YANKSGAMEDAY

- BY MIKE MAZZEO

TORONTO – Murderers’ Row 2.0 made J.A. feel Happless on the mound.

J.A. Happ, a potential Yankees’ trade target, flopped in his Broadway audition Saturday, giving up two homers and walking six while failing to get out of the third inning. The Bombers touched up Happ for six runs in their 8-5 victory over the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Of course, this could be Happ’s way of helping what could be his future team. He wouldn’t have to face them again if he joins them. And perhaps the asking price for him will drop as a result of this debacle.

The Bombers are 9-1 in their last 10 games against lefty starters, 22-6 overall. Happ’s ERA rose from 4.03 to 4.44.

Brett Gardner hit Happ’s first pitch out of the ballpark for his sixth home run of the season. Four pitches later, Aaron Judge did the same with dinger No. 25. Brandon Drury added a two-run double with two outs as part of a four-run first inning.

Gardner later added a two-run triple after Happ had departed with two outs in the third. CC Sabathia was ejected in the third after arguing balls and strikes. John Gibbons was also thrown out later in the frame upon removing Happ.

Luis Severino (14-2, 2.12 ERA) allowed three runs on five hits (two homers) in five innings. He walked two and struck out five. Severino has allowed three or fewer runs in 16 straight starts, surpassing Ron Guidry (1978) for the longest such streak by a Yankee since the start of the Live Ball Era (1920), per MLB.com.

Aroldis Chapman left with one out in the ninth inning due to a knee issue and Aaron Hicks left earlier with leg cramps.
