Gun scare KOs rock concert

- Spencer Dukoff

Folk rockers the Avett Brothers canceled a soldout concert in Oregon on Saturday night after being told before the start of the show that security had lost track of a man with a gun trying to enter the venue.

According to a statement on the band’s website, a man claiming to be “an out-of-state police officer” with a badge was confronted by security after his firearm triggered a metal detector at an entrance to a venue at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale.

The venue has a nofirearm policy.

A security guard asked the man to wait for a manager to confirm his entry, but “the individual disregarded her instructions and ventured immediately into the sizable audience,” according to the statement.

Despite “an exhaustive search” by both venue security and the band’s security, the man was not located.

“Due to the obvious threat posed by someone in the audience with a firearm, regardless of his (unconfirmed) claim of being a member of law enforcement, we were obligated, for the safety of everyone present, to cancel the performance,” the band, led by Scott and Seth Avett, said in a statement.
