-

The inmate choked to death by another prisoner on Rikers Island was an aspiring music producer who was homeless for years, his family said Tuesday.

Casey Holloway, 35, was attacked by Artemio Rosa, 27, as he sat on a chair inside the Anna M. Kross Center on Rikers Island at 2:33 p.m. Monday, according to authorities.

A correction officer tried to pull Rosa off Holloway, according to jail officials, but was unable to do it in time.

Holloway, who grew up in Chicago and moved to New York 10 years ago, was in jail facing robbery charges.

He hit one person in the back of the head and shoulder with an umbrella and tried to steal his cell phone on a Murray Hill street on June 13, according to the criminal complaint.

He had been living in a homeless shelter for years, according to his family.
