Trump goes ballistic vs. Brit PM and suggests let Boris do Brexit

Fresh off a chaotic NATO summit in Brussels, President Trump kept his anti-European broadsides going Thursday, blasting British Prime Minister Theresa May and threatenin­g to refuse any future trade deals with her government.

Trump delivered a stunning rebuke of May’s approach to Britain’s exit from the European Union in an extraordin­ary interview with The Sun just hours before meeting with the prime minister at a royal palace in rural England.

The President claimed May’s soft Brexit proposal, which seeks to maintain some economic ties to the EU, is “very unfortunat­e” — and suggested her recently resigned Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson should take her place.

“I would have done it much differentl­y,” Trump told the London newspaper of Brexit. “I actually told Theresa May how to do it, but she didn’t agree, she didn’t listen to me.”

Trump heaped praise on Johnson, who stepped down earlier this week in protest of May’s Brexit blueprint.

“I have a lot of respect for Boris. He obviously likes me, and says very good things about me,” Trump said. “I think he is a great representa­tive for your country … I am just saying I think he would be a great prime minister. I think he’s got what it takes.”

Trump threatened to shut May’s government out of any internatio­nal trade agreements if she proceeds with her current Brexit plan.
