WASHINGTON, D.C. — Astros teammates Alex Bregman and George Springer hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the 10th inning of the 89th All-Star Game as they powered the American League to an 8-6 win over the National League Tuesday night at Nationals Park. It was the sixth straight win for the AL over the NL in the Midsummer Classic, and a very appropriate reflection of the state of the game in 2018. Tuesday night's Midsummer Classic featured an All-Star Game record 10 home runs combined by both teams.

The defending World Series champions, Bregman and Springer, led off the 10th with solo shots off Dodgers right-hander Ross Stripling to break open the game, which had been tied at 5-5.

Scooter Gennett, the last position player left on the National League bench, had knotted the score with a two-run shot off Seattle closer Edwin Diaz with one out in the bottom of the ninth. It was one of just two multi-run homers on the night. Seattle shortstop Jean Segura's three-run shot came one pitch after Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto bobbled and dropped a foul pop into the NL dugout. He got the error for allowing the at-bat to continue and Segura then turned on Brewers reliever Josh Hader's 95-mile an hour fastball.

Angels slugger Mike Trout, who was making his sixth All-Star Game start and seventh straight appearance, homered off Mets ace Jacob deGrom in the third. Trout crushed a changeup down and away, roping a laser into the left-field seats to give the AL the lead.
