‘Guardians’ guy out for ‘rape’ joke

- BY MEGAN CERULLO

Writer-director James Gunn has been fired from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise over a series of newly unearthed tweets mocking pedophilia and rape.

“I like when little boys touch me in my silly place,” one of the tweets reads.

“The best thing about being raped is when you’re done being raped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being raped!’” reads another, Fox News reported.

Disney swiftly removed Gunn from the franchise as soon as the batch of offensive social media posts — authored before the Marvel franchise was created — were uncovered by a political adversary of Gunn’s.

“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,” Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a statement.

Gunn responded too, claiming he’s evolved since he wrote the posts.

“1. Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.”

“My days saying something just because it’s shocking and trying to get a reaction are over,” he added.

He also claimed that “when I made these shocking jokes, I wasn’t living them out.”

He issued a second statement after his firing saying, “I understand and accept the business decisions taken today,” ABC News reported.

Other offensive comments made light of the Sept. 11 attacks, AIDS, and the Holocaust, according to the report.

Gunn, who wrote and directed “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” will no longer direct “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.”
