How sweet it is!

CHOCOLATE KING RETURNS TO N.Y.

- BY GINA SALAMONE

Call it sweet revenge.

Cocoa king Oded Brenner recently unveiled a new dessert destination around the corner from a rival chocolate chain that he co-launched, then sold and clashed in court with.

Brenner’s Blue Stripes Cacao Shop near Union Square at 28 E. 13th St. is about a block away from Max Brenner, the Broadway restaurant and chocolate shop that he co-founded, then sold. After the sale, a court-issued noncompete agreement prevented Brenner from selling chocolate for five years.

He doesn’t sugarcoat his sour feelings.

“A New York judge signed on a “Stipulated Order” — a term I didn’t know till then and I really don’t want to know till today — which meant that for five years I can’t say, make or tell anyone anything about chocolate,” Brenner explains in a bio on the Blue Stripes website.

But now he’s back, just a stone’s throw from Max Brenner, whose current Israeli owners declined to comment for this story.

“It actually was a coincidence and not intentional,” Brenner (inset) told the Daily News of his new eatery’s location. “My intent was to look for a place that was on a side street in the center of the city and has a specific look and feel with an industrial/ factory aesthetic and the current location of Blue Stripes met all of those needs.” His craving for an industrial feel is mostly likely due to Brenner promoting his new spot as a “Cacao Lab,” where inventive dishes and delights are dreamed up.

Treats include the Chocolate Clouds — drinkable mousse whipped with air — on tap. They come in three flavors, all sold for $8.50, including Molten Milk, Nutella Foam and an “Experiments” option that will rotate.
