Jet-setting life haunts ex-PA bigwig
Talk about parking privileges.
A former Port Authority supervisor at Kennedy Airport gave free overnight parking to jets from Qatar and other countries in violation of the agency's rules, state officials said.
Marlene Mizzi, 54, allegedly took bribes that included free limo service, meals and a watch from various representatives of other counties to allow the airplanes to stay overnight at the airport from 2014 until June when she left the agency.
Under JFK rules, foreign state aircraft must leave within two hours of their arrival. But Mizzi allowed numerous Qatari diplomatic planes to stay overnight during the United Nations General Assembly.
Mizzi also allegedly accepted bottles of wine and other gifts from representatives of foreign countries. She's charged with three counts of receiving a reward for official misconduct.
Joseph Jourieh, who works for East Coast Concierge, was charged with supplying Mizzi with the gifts.
“We have zero tolerance for those who violate the public trust for personal benefit,” said Attorney General Barbara Underwood. “As we detail in the indictment, the defendant used her position at the Port Authority for personal gain, accepting gifts and benefits from individuals working for foreign governments in exchange for special treatment.”
Mizzi made more than $120,000 a year prior to her departure.
