Jets WR brushing off Pryor bad blood with Washington

- BY MANISH MEHTA

Wide receiver Terrelle Pryor is bracing for a rough reception from his former teammates when the Jets and Washington hold joint practices Aug. 12-14 in Richmond, Virginia, in the run-up to their second preseason game on Aug. 16.

“If they take dirty shots, I’m sure we’ll handle that accordingly,” Pryor said after practice on Thursday. “You start trying to make it an individual thing, it takes away from our team. I don’t want to individualize myself.”

Pryor (photo) evidently wasn’t the most popular player in his injury-marred season with Washington.

Linebacker Zach Brown made it clear in June that he wasn’t the biggest fan of his former teammate. Brown claimed that Washington head coach Jay Gruden basically put Pryor in a bubble, but the coach won’t be able “to protect you anymore” when the teams spend a week together later this month.

“The boys are gonna have it out for him,” Brown said. “We can put hands on him now… The boys were already hot for what he was doing last year. Try to one-hand something while you’re with the Jets, you’re gonna catch a forearm.”

Pryor, who had just 20 receptions for 240 yards and one touchdown in nine games before undergoing season-ending ankle surgery, initially downplayed Brown’s comments earlier in camp. He went into more detail Thursday, while trying to maintain the high road.

“We’re there to practice and get better,” Pryor said. “If I wanted to put my shoulder down and hit one of them — and get chippy, too — I’m sure I could do that. But that’s not why we’re there.”

Pryor, who suffered a different ankle injury this offseason that kept him out for the bulk of spring workouts, took 10 reps in team drills on Thursday.
