NYPD’s terror big: 3D guns ‘insanity’

- BY REUVEN BLAU

The NYPD's counterterrorism chief called the possibility of 3D-printed assault weapons “truly unbelievable.”

“This is just insanity,” John Miller told John Catsimatidis on his Sunday AM 970 morning radio show.

He pointed out that gun control advocates pressed for years to pass legislation requiring universal background checks for new gun owners. The gun control laws still have major loopholes that need to be addressed, like allowing gun buyers to avoid the check at gun shows, Miller said.

The advent of unchecked 3D printers that someone can buy for $2,000 and use to make an untraceable weapon is “the greatest loophole of all,” he said.

“We're taking a turn there from the ridiculous to something that is truly unbelievable. It's one of those moments where we have to ask ourselves, well, who are we?” he added.

“Are we a society that just wants to continue to supply tools to those who are bent on violence for reasons whether rational, political, terroristic, irrational?” he asked. “Or do we want to have some kind of sensible existence where we send our children to school or to the movies or to the mall, knowing that they're going to be relatively safe in an open and free society?

“Consider the concept: buy yourself a printer, and make your own gun, and don't worry about the law.”
