Bart’s quest

Time running out for Colon’s next milestone

-

Bartolo Colon still has another lofty goal after becoming the top winning pitcher from Latin America: He also wants to surpass Juan Marichal in innings pitched.

But there likely won’t be enough time left in his 21st big-league season for the 45year-old Rangers righthander to do that. After needing six tries to get his 246th career victory and finally break a tie with Nicaragua’s Dennis Martinez for the most win by a Latin American, Colon now would have to throw 61 2/3 more innings to pass Hall of Famer and fellow countryman Marichal on another list.

The last-place Rangers have only 46 games, and Colon has averaged just under six innings in his 21 starts.

Nationals RHP Kelvin Herrera was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff impingement, a move that further thins the back of Washington’s bullpen. The injury happened Tuesday night during the ninth inning of the loss to the Braves. The Nats are already without closer Sean Doolittle.

Browns WR Callaway had bullets, gun part in car

As Browns WR Antonio Callaway stood by, a police officer said he “got real nervous” when he found bullets and a gun part while searching the rookie’s vehicle.

Callaway was cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license after being stopped by Strongsville, Ohio police early Sunday morning for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.

A Browns spokesman said the fourth-round pick traveled with the team for Thursday’s exhibition opener against the Giants.

The Colts’ plan for Andrew Luck to take some snaps against the Seahawks tonight in Seattle. The quarterback hurt his right shoulder in September 2015 against Tennessee, missed two games, then returned to make four more starts before sustaining a season-ending lacerated kidney. He played through shoulder pain in 2016, then had surgery that sidelined him for all of last season. It’s been roughly 600 days between starts.

Faye Spanos, the wife of Los Angeles Chargers owner Alex Spanos, died late Tuesday night at 92. She married Alex Spanos in 1948, and they raised four children in Stockton, Calif. Alex Spanos built a billion-dollar fortune in real estate and construction during their marriage, and he purchased a majority share in the San Diego Chargers in 1984.
