Three held in deadly drug sales
Three suspected Staten Island drug dealers have been indicted for pushing heroin, fentanyl and cocaine linked to seven overdoses including one death, authorities said Thursday.
Cashorn McMaster, 38, Amanda Martinez 32, and Jahnell Wright, 24, were busted for their involvement in a drug ring that peddled poison across the borough.
The network had ties to the Gorilla Stone Bloods gang, according to prosecutors. Detectives made a series of undercover drug buys to build evidence against the group starting last October.
McMaster is charged with a range of drug offenses and reckless endangerment for selling doses to people who overdosed. McMaster and Martinez are also charged with endangering the welfare of a child for selling heroin in front of a minor.
“The main subject of this long term investigation is accused of selling heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine in large amounts across Staten Island, even continuing to push these deadly drugs after several of his customers overdosed multiple times,” Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon said.
McMahon's office refused to reveal any information about the fatal overdose.
Police Commissioner James O'Neill noted that there are more opioid related deaths than there are murders and vehicle collisions combined.
“This epidemic affects people from all walks of life, of all races, ages, and financial backgrounds, in every community,” he said.
McMaster was held without bail. Martinez was ordered held on $250,000 bail, while Wright was held on $15,000 bail.
