G-man axed for messages hitting Trump

- BY JANON FISHER

Peter Strzok, the FBI agent involved in both the Clinton server investigation and the Russia election hacking probe, was fired Friday over anti-Trump texts he sent in 2016, according to the agent’s lawyer.

Strzok, a 21-year veteran of the bureau, had disparaged President Trump as an “idiot” and showed a preference for Hillary Clinton in a text he sent an FBI lawyer with whom he’d been having an affair.

The ex-agent had been taken off special counsel Robert Mueller’s team directly following an inspector general’s report about the political messages.

Most damning was an exchange between Strzok and bureau attorney Lisa Page, with whom he was romantically involved.

Page asked Strzok if Trump is “not ever going to become President, right? Right?!”

He responded: “No. No he won’t. We’ll stop it.”

The President has used these texts as evidence that the Mueller probe is politically motivated.

Deputy Director David Bowdich fired Strzok, overriding an internal bureau recommendation that he be demoted and suspended for 60 days, according to The Washington Post, which first reported the news.

Strzok’s lawyer, Aitan Goelman, said that the dismissal violates his client’s right to due process.

“This isn’t the normal process in any way more than name,” he said. “This decision should be deeply troubling to all Americans. A lengthy investigation and multiple rounds of congressional testimony failed to produce a shred of evidence that Special Agent Strzok’s personal views ever affected his work.”

The bureau declined to comment, but the President responded on Twitter.

“Agent Peter Strzok was just fired from the FBI — finally. The list of bad players in the FBI & DOJ gets longer & longer. Based on the fact that Strzok was in charge of the Witch Hunt, will it be dropped? It is a total Hoax. No Collusion, No Obstruction — I just fight back!”
