Pryor takes heat from Washington players AND Bowles

- BY MANISH MEHTA

Terrelle Pryor’s former teammates evidently weren’t sad to see him go after one injurymarred season.

Pryor jawed with Washington players on the final day of joint practices before the second preseason game on Thursday.

“I’m ready to get the f--- out of here,” Pryor told reporters after Tuesday’s practice.

Defensive backs threw verbal jabs at Pryor after an incompletion in the end zone during drills, prompting D.J. Swearinger to throw a fake punch that caused the Jets wide receiver to flinch.

The Jets also got into a minor skirmish involving backup offensive lineman Dakota Dozier.

“It wasn’t really that heated,” Todd Bowles said of the scuffle after practice. “You can’t get in a fight in shorts and T-shirt.”

The Jets and Washington got into a bigger scuffle on Sunday that prompted Bowles to admonish his players for wasting time.

The joint practices couldn’t end soon enough for Pryor, who won’t play in the game as he comes back from two surgeries in the past eight months. Pryor, who is dealing with hip issues as he gets acclimated to running more often, has been relegated to 10 reps per practice.

Bowles expressed his discontent Tuesday at the wideout’s admission a day earlier that he underwent ankle surgery in May. The Daily News previously reported that Pryor’s ankle injury in the summer was not related to the foot surgery that cut short his only season in Washington.

“Terrelle doesn’t need to be descriptive,” a perturbed Bowles said Tuesday after the injury. “I feel that he should keep his mouth shut and leave the injuries to me . ... I’ve already handled it. We had a conversation. We’ll discuss our own in-house things inhouse.”

Pryor has flashed his talent on the field in the past week with some athletic plays that could help an offense in desperate need of play makers.

“Right now, I’m just chasing perfection of my craft and trying to get back to where I know I should be,” Pryor said this week. “I’m still trying to get healthy.”

Added Bowles this week: “We know he’s a freakish athlete. He’s just coming back. We’re just taking it easy with him . ... When he gets healthy and we see him at full tilt, then we’ll see what he can do fully . ... We just have to make sure we monitor him the right way.”

Bowles admitted that there were benefits to these joint practices. Something tells me that Pryor might disagree.

Former teammate Zach Brown said earlier in the offseason that the receiver was protected by Washington coach Jay Gruden last year.

Pryor responded by claiming that “if they take dirty shots, we’ll handle it accordingly” during the joint practices.
