Blaz: Comparisons to Trump on media bashing 'facile'
Mayor de Blasio yet again rejected comparisons between his media criticism and President Trump's — calling it “facile and simplistic.”
De Blasio has in recent weeks taken pains to insist his broadsides at the media are aimed in one place in particular: Fox News and its associated newspapers, which he said on the FAQNYC podcast “are not like the rest of the American media, period.”
But that's a bit of revisionist history. De Blasio has fumed over the coverage he's gotten across the press corps.
And the mayor has repeatedly ripped the Daily News for accurately reporting on his administration — similar to the way Trump dismisses stories he dislikes as fake news.
“Look, the Daily News has an ax to grind here, let's be very clear about that, and I wish it was about the facts, but I don't think it is,” de Blasio had said.
Hizzoner was also pressed on the podcast about a News editorial this week that once again compared his critiques of the press to Trump's.
“I just wish people could think past the last two years. It's just a-historical,” de Blasio said of the editorial. “Let's act like there's some actual intelligence in this discussion — not this one but the bigger public one.”
