Mets call up Zamora to pen

-

The Mets called up left-handed pitcher Daniel Zamora from Double-A Binghamton Friday and placed righty Bobby Wahl on the disabled list with a right hamstring strain.

Zamora, 25, was 1-1 with a pair of saves in 40 games for Binghamton this season. He will be added to the active roster in time for Friday night's game against the Phillies. He has yet to pitch in the majors.

The Mets transferred Phillip Evans to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40man roster for Zamora.

Zamora, who was named to the mid-season Eastern League All-Star team, has a 3.48 ERA in 51.2 innings this season at the Double-A level. He has 69 strikeouts against just 16 walks.

Righties are hitting just .157 (16-102) against him, while he is holding lefthanders to a .244 (21-86 mark).

He joined the Mets organization on Jan. 31 in a deal that sent lefty Josh Smoker to the Pirates.

Zamora - 6-3, 195 - has a career minor-league record of 7-7 with 14 saves and a 2.80 ERA in 114 games.
