Blaz pulling for ‘amazing’ team
Mayor de Blasio is hoping a Staten Island Little League team can go all the way.
Hizzoner heaped praise on Mid-Island, the borough team that's now just one win away from playing in the U.S. championship game of the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
“They are doing an amazing, amazing job,” de Blasio said at an unrelated press conference Monday. “They've captured the hearts of all New Yorkers.”
Asked if he had advice for them, de Blasio — who plays softball himself — said they ought to keep doing what they're doing and know the city is behind them.
And he promised lots of hoopla if they take home the championship. Their next game is Wednesday night against Honolulu.
“If they go all the way, we're doing a big, big ceremony for them.”
