‘Best’ is a big loser

The fight against cyberbullying begins at home.

The First Lady spoke out against online hazing on Monday — as her husband fired off a series of snide tweets berating and ridiculing public officials.

Melania Trump, who launched her “Be Best” campaign this year, made an impassioned plea in Rockville, Md, on behalf of children for the “safe and responsible use of social media” during a speech at a cyberbullying summit, called Federal Partners on Bullying Prevention.

“Let's face it: most children are more aware of the benefits and pitfalls of social media than some adults, but we still need to do all we can to provide them with information and tools for successful and safe online habits,” she said at the forum at the federal Health Resources and Services Administration.

She spoke about a group of young people she had met through Microsoft's Council for Digital Good and how she was “inspired by their sincere commitment to reducing peer-to-peer bullying through kindness and open communication.”

As she spoke, President Trump dismissed a “whole group of Angry Democrat Thugs” and ripped special counsel Robert Mueller in a series of tweets.

“Disgraced and discredited Bob Mueller and his whole group of Angry Democrat Thugs spent over 30 hours with the White House Councel, only with my approval, for purposes of transparency. Anybody needing that much time when they know there is

no Russian Collusion is just someone looking for trouble,” he wrote in a two-part tweet, misspelling the word “counsel.”

“They are enjoying ruining people's lives and REFUSE to look at the real corruption on the Democrat side - the lies, the firings, the deleted Emails and soooo much more! Mueller's Angry Dems are looking to impact the election. They are a National Disgrace!”

He also belittled the Justice Department and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The President called Justice Department official Bruce Ohr a “total joke,” calling for him to be fired.

John Brennan, Trump tweeted Monday, “was the worst CIA director in our country's history.”

“He is a political ‘hack,'” the President posted.

Last week the President referred to former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman as a “dog” and “lowlife” on Twitter.

The First Lady's focus is on children, not her husband, but as she once told CNN's Anderson Cooper after the infamous “Access Hollywood” recording in which he made lewd reference to grabbing women's privates, “I have two boys. I have my young son and I have my husband.”

“Actually, they should behave better,” she told Cooper.

Melania Trump did not mention her husband, though, when she cautioned that the use of social media “can be destructive and harmful when used incorrectly.”

“That is why Be Best chooses to focus on the importance of teaching our next generation how to conduct themselves safely and in a positive manner in an online setting,” she said.

Regarding her husband's tweets, the First Lady is “well aware of the criticism, but that will not deter her from doing what she feels is right,” her communications director Stephanie Grisham said.

“I would hope most people in this country are proud that they have a strong and independent First Lady who only has the best interests of children at heart — I know I am,” Grisham said.
