Truth is, Rudy babbles on
The truth is ... that the truth does not always come out.
Rudy Giuliani, a lawyer for President Trump, attempted to clarify the “truth isn't truth” comment he made Sunday on NBC's “Meet the Press.”
The former New York City mayor had been talking about special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation into possible election meddling by the Russians when he started talking about the credibility of witnesses.
“It's somebody's version of the truth, not the truth,” Giuliani told host Chuck Todd.
“Truth is truth,” Todd responded.
“Truth isn't truth,” Giuliani chimed in.
Todd was stunned, and said, “This is going to become a bad meme.”
Giuliani tweeted on Monday that his statement “was not meant as a pontification on moral theology but one referring to the situation where two people make precisely contradictory statements, the classic ‘he said, she said' puzzle.”
He added that, “sometimes further inquiry can reveal the truth other times it doesn't.”
Giuliani was widely mocked for Sunday's comment, with former Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara tweeting, “Rudy Giuliani: ‘Truth isn't truth.' Try that one with a jury.”
“Truth isn't truth — Rudy Giuliani. Well not in this White House,” Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) tweeted.
