4 bars in city get hammered
State authorities issued stop work orders at four city bars, including one in Queens where a shooting took place, and handed out $471,000 in penalties, officials said.
Naresa Palace on Rockaway Blvd. in South Ozone Park, the site of gunfire on Aug. 1, received a stop work order because it had no workers compensation insurance, the state Liquor Authority and the state Workers’ Compensation Board said.
Eight blocks east on Rockaway Blvd., the Tic Tavern got the same treatment. The joint has a history of complaints and was previously slapped with a stop work order in July 2017.
A few blocks north of those two spots, Insomnia Bar and Lounge on 111th Ave. in South Ozone Park was fined $66,263.
Over in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, inspectors raided the Lone Star Sports Bar on 5th Ave. based on a series of complaints from the community board. That bar was also found to be in violation of workers compensation and disability benefits rules. The owners quickly insured themselves and settled the case.
“The SLA is committed to working with the Workers’ Comp Board and local law enforcement in joint operations to keep our neighborhoods safe,” State Liquor Authority Chairman Vincent Bradley (photo) said. “These efforts have led to immediate action against problem locations, and have made a positive impact for people living in these communities.”
