2 Finest hit on DWI raps after fights

- BY THOMAS TRACY

An off-duty cop was arrested on drunken driving charges after he left an NYPD sanctioned boxing match, officials said Wednesday.

The arrest of Police Officer Nicholas Nelson, 33, was one of two collars that stemmed from Thursday’s “smoker” in Coney Island, where cops with grudges against each other hashed out their differences in the ring. The boxing matches are sponsored by the NYPD Boxing Team.

Another off-duty cop, Police Officer Tauseef Malik, was also arrested for allegedly groping two women in the audience at the boxing match. One of the women was a fellow cop, sources said.

Nelson was driving home from the smoker through Staten Island about 3:30 a.m. Friday when he rammed his 2018 Infiniti Q50 into a highway guardrail.

When police showed up on the scene, Nelson seemed unsteady on his feet and had alcohol on his breath. He had claimed that he hit the guardrail after a passing Honda sideswiped him, court papers say.

“(He) sideswiped me and I swerved into the guardrail,” said Nelson, who is currently assigned to the 67th Precinct in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Cops charged him with drunken driving and driving while ability impaired. A judge ordered him released on his own recognizance following a brief arraignment on Friday.

An NYPD spokesman said Nelson was suspended from duty following his arrest.

On the same day, cops arrested Malik in Brooklyn after his alleged victims came forward and claimed that he had grabbed their behinds.

Malik allegedly shrugged off the assaults, claiming in one instance that he had thought the victim was his girlfriend, according to sources with knowledge of the case.

He was charged with two counts of forcible touching, sexual abuse and harassment — all misdemeanors. A judge ordered him released without bail during a brief appearance in Brooklyn criminal court on Friday
