They’re home & dancing in the streets

- BY NOAH GOLDBERG

They’re back home after a years-long public feud with their landlord resulted in substantial repairs to their Chinatown apartment building.

After seven months, 75 residents of 85 Bowery were back in their flats Friday after Joseph Betesh completed extensive repairs.

The city ordered the building emptied in January after its main stairway was deemed unsafe, among other issues.

As of Friday, the stairway was fixed and all units had new kitchens and bathrooms. Betesh said he won’t charge renters for the repairs.

Betesh joined tenants — who are mostly Chinese — in a traditional lion’s dance, which is meant to bring good fortune.

“They said they were going to make all the repairs and they did. They said they were going to help people out financially and they did,” said Betesh spokesman Ken Fisher.
