Vid shows Tex. fiend blow self up
The man who terrorized Austin, Texas, in a weeks-long bombing spree last March was filmed on helicopter video detonating an explosive device in his car and killing himself as a police SWAT team converged on the vehicle.
The video footage, obtained by the Austin American-Statesman, shows Austin police approach suspect Mark Conditt in the vehicle off Interstate 35 in Round Rock moments before the man takes his own life and the officers are blown back.
Two people died and three were injured in the string of bombings that terrorized Austin for 19 days in March.
The video was played at a Texas Department of Public Safety meeting that was open to the public.
A SWAT team located Conditt early on March 21, and laid out a plan to confront him.
He killed himself just before officers reached him.
None of the officers were injured by the blast.
An investigation into the case is ongoing.
