9th suit vs. cop dropped
An embattled NYPD detective who saw a ninth lawsuit against him dropped Thursday wants to know what the city is doing to curb what he calls baseless lawsuits.
“What are the consequences for people who file these BS lawsuits?” Detective David Terrell said as a civil rights suit filed against him and another cop was withdrawn in federal court.
Teen Angelo Cotto claimed Terrell and four other cops falsely arrested him for a 2014 robbery. But a review of the case showed Terrell had nothing to do with the bust, and Cotto was identified by the victim. Cotto’s attorneys pulled the suit after the city showed them the evidence. A call to the lawyers was not immediately returned.
The case is the ninth unsuccessful civil suit against Terrell in the last few years after he was publicly maligned as a rogue cop who allegedly beats and falsely arrests suspects. Another suit against him is pending, sources said.
Michael Palladino, president of the Detectives Endowment Association said the suits “were simply the result of a scheme by crooks and their attorneys to get the dedicated detective benched by the department and out for the way so their criminal enterprise could flourish.”
