HANK’S HONEYS: The Lions are coming off a dreadful preseason, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and while that's usually not a great indicator of regular-season success, it might mean they've been slow to pick up Matt Patricia's complexiti­es. Remember that the Pats were often slow starters until everyone was on board with the many required reads and adjustment­s. Patricia will still give Sam Darnold plenty of looks in his first NFL game, but the Lions don't get after the QB that well and that will extend the rookie's inner clock.
