$3.9B Tap replacement, Mario, fully open
Gov. Cuomo on Friday rallied with Hillary Clinton ahead of next week’s primary — but the focus was on a bridge, not politics.
Cuomo, Clinton and dignitaries stood on the newest span of the $3.9 billion Mario Cuomo Bridge that’ll be fully open to traffic Saturday to unveil a plaque in honor of the governor’s father and to cut the ribbon ahead of the Sept. 13 primary election. Cars have been driving on the first span that had opened last year.
Cuomo took a ceremonial first ride in President Franklin Roosevelt’s 1932 Packard car.
In his remarks, Cuomo said that the construction of a new bridge to replace the old Tappan Zee had “national significance,” comparing his bridge to President Trump’s border wall with Mexico.
“At a time when the president is obsessed with his singular goal of building a wall, this bridge stands in defiant opposition.,” Cuomo said.
