Word on Wright today

-

The Mets and David Wright are expecting to announce today their plans for the team captain’s attempted comeback.

The Mets’ third baseman has not played in a major-league game since May 2016, but has said he is ready to play in a game before the end of the season.

According to sources, Wright is hoping to play in at least two games during the last home stand.

Mets COO Jeff Wilpon confirmed Wednesday that he had met with Wright about the comeback, but would not say what the results of the meeting were.

Signed to an eight-year $138 million deal in December of 2012, Wright is insured so that the Mets get 75% of his contract back after he has missed 60 games. Wright is owed $27 million over the next two seasons.
