Foe: Give $ info on gov’s gal
ALBANY — GOP gubernatorial candidate and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said Tuesday that Gov. Cuomo’s longtime live-in celebrity chef girlfriend should be required to publicly disclose her finances like political spouses must.
Molinaro brought up the issue to reporters while hitting back on previous criticism from the Cuomo campaign that his wife at one time worked for a company that had donated to her husband’s campaigns and had won county contracts.
“I would no sooner attack his girlfriend than he should be suggesting anything wrong with my wife,” Molinaro said. “And oh, by the way, as they all talk about the release of public information, you know my wife’s employment, you know my income, because we released it to you.
“Do you know anything about the house that he lives in … or the individual he lives with. That’s not public information.”
He added that under his Albany ethics reform proposal, “no matter what it is your lifestyle, married or unmarried, if you’re sharing residence, if you’re living together in a family, that information needs to be made public.
“Why? Because you can be entangled with conflicts of interest.”
State law currently requires elected officials to disclose financial information including jobs and financial and real estate holdings pertaining to themselves and their spouses.
The law does not cover the unmarried partners who are living with an elected official.
