Innocent pleas in woman’s 1997 slay

- BY CATHERINA GIOINO

Two men charged with murdering a transgender woman in the Bronx 21 years ago pleaded not guilty at their arraignment Friday.

“Daddy, daddy,” a young woman yelled out to suspect Christopher (Champagne) Dickerson moments later. “I love you.”

The woman, and a man with her, wouldn’t speak to the Daily News; nor would his lawyer or the lawyer for Glenn Broadnax, the other suspect.

Dickerson, 42, and Broadnax, 40, were busted in August, then indicted for murdering Amanda White, whose body was found March 11, 1997, in a lot on Boston Road.

White, 20 at the time, had been strangled with an electrical cord, from which DNA was recovered and ultimately linked to one of the suspects.

She was killed during an argument, not because of her sexuality, police have said.

Still, White’s mother, after the arrest, told The News she believed her daughter’s case was never a top priority because of her sexual identity.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said the indictment “sends a clear message that we will pursue justice no matter how much time has passed.”
