Don’t vote for our bro – 6 siblings

- BY DENIS SLATTERY

Six siblings of an Arizona congressman are sharing their thoughts about their brother in a campaign ad supporting his opponent.

The ad begins innocuously enough, featuring a series of people lambasting Republican Rep. Paul Gosar over his farright views and telling viewers he “doesn’t have your interests at heart.”

At the end of the ad, the sextet reveal they are all related to Gosar — and that they back David Brill, the Democrat hoping to unseat the lawmaker.

“Paul Gosar’s my brother,” one says.

“And I support Dr. Brill,” a second adds.

The Phoenix New Times first reported on the ad Thursday night and noted that another yet-to-be-made-public spot features one of Gosar’s sisters saying that "it would be difficult to see my brother as anything but a racist.”

Gosar is a noted conspiracy theorist who promoted the bogus “birther” tale about former President Barack Obama not being born in the U.S.

He also traveled to London last year to speak at a rally supporting an anti-Muslim activist.

It’s unclear if the deeply personal ad will sway voters in the rural western Arizona district that Gosar won by more than 40 points in 2016.

Race also came into play Friday night after Texas Sen. Ted Cruz tweeted out a video of his opponent speaking about his belief that unarmed black Americans shouldn’t be killed by police in their own homes.

Cruz sent out the tweet ahead of his debate against Democrat Rep. Beto O’Rourke. The video had critics scratching their heads.

“In Beto O’Rourke’s own words,” the Republican tweeted, with a video of O’Rourke speaking at a church about the death of Botham Jean, an unarmed black man killed in his Texas apartment by an off-duty white police officer.

Dozens of O’Rourke supporters responded by thanking Cruz for sharing the clip. Others pointed out what they called the racist subtext of Cruz’s message.
