Andy’s foe has plan to ‘net’ slime
ALBANY — GOP gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro, who has made tackling corruption the centerpiece of his campaign, has created a website for state workers who want to report wrongdoing within the Cuomo administration.
Molinaro said he created cuomoleaks.com after receiving tips on an assortment of issues from whistleblowers afraid to come forward for fear of retribution from the governor and his aides. That includes ones pertaining to the opening of the second span of the Tappan Zee Bridge named after Cuomo's father, former New York governor Mario Cuomo, just days before the Democratic gubernatorial primary.
“In creating CuomoLeaks.com, we are speaking directly to those brave individuals, and others like them, and providing them with a secure, confidential online tool with which they can pass along information that needs to see the light of day,” Molinaro said.
On the site, tipsters have the option of remaining anonymous and can add “supporting documents.”
The Republican candidate, who is also the Duchess County executive, offered up a document he said was sent to him showing that contractors working on the closure of the old Tappan Zee Bridge, and the opening of the new one, were rushed to open the new structure in time for Cuomo's primary despite cost and public safety concerns — something Team Cuomo has denied.
On Sunday, Thruway Authority Director Matthew Driscoll said in a statement to The News the letter “proves Molinaro wrong” and that the contractors, TZC, “had a contractual obligation set more than a year ago to finish the second span by Aug 24. TZC stated they were unable to meet that contractual date...and instead they proposed the September 7th opening date.
“The contractors will be legally responsible for not meeting the original contract date,” Driscoll said. “Molinaro should apologize for making another reckless, false political attack.”
