GOPers ‘disgusting’ on raps vs. nominee: Cuomo

- BY KENNETH LOVETT

BOLTON LANDING, N.Y. — Gov. Cuomo blasted the handling by Republicans of sexual assault allegations against U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as “disgusting.”

Cuomo, speaking to reporters after addressing the state Business Council on Tuesday, said he was particularly offended that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) predicted a confirmation vote on Kavanaugh even before a hearing would be held into the allegations against him.

McConnell said the allegations from two women are part of a “shameful smear campaign” against Kavanaugh by the Democrats.

Cuomo said McConnell's comments “just showed what a sham and a mockery the entire process is.”

Taking aim at President Trump, who has knocked Democrats for their handling of the situation, Cuomo added that “there is a disrespect for women that this administration chronically exemplifies.”

“To cheapen or ridicule the pain a woman suffers from a sexual attack is disgusting — sexist and disgusting,” he said. The same, he said, goes for second-guessing how a woman should have reacted to an attack.

Cuomo stopped short of saying Kavanaugh's nomination should be withdrawn by the President. “Let's find out the facts,” he said. “That would be done by people coming to a fair hearing process and relying on the facts, and then make a conclusion. But this is a mockery, when they say before the hearings even start he's going to be confirmed.”

Cuomo's administration has been accused by critics of not doing enough to respond to sexual harassment complaints, something he and his aides vehemently deny.
