I was model of misery, says Gisele

Gisele Bundchen’s life as a Victoria’s Secret supermodel may have looked picture-perfect from the outside, but the star says that at the height of her fame, she was battling demons that left her feeling “powerless.”

Bundchen, 38 (photo), revealed that she suffered panic attacks and anxiety so bad that she contemplated suicide.

The model, whose memoir, “Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life,” is out next month, said in an interview that she had her first panic attack in 2003 on a bumpy plane ride.

Soon, she had developed an intense fear of enclosed spaces, such as tunnels and elevators.

“I had a wonderful position in my career, I was very close to my family, and I always considered myself a positive person, so I was really beating myself up. Like, ‘Why should I be feeling this?’ I felt like I wasn’t allowed to feel bad,” she told People.

“But I felt powerless. Your world becomes smaller and smaller, and you can’t breathe, which is the worst feeling I’ve ever had.”

While previously limited to small spaces, the fears soon followed her into her own home, prompting thoughts of suicide.

“I actually had the feeling of, ‘If I just jump off my balcony, this is going to end, and I never have to worry about this feeling of my world closing in,’ ” she recalled.

Bundchen sought help from a specialist, who prescribed Xanax. But the thought of relying upon pills scared the model even more.

She came to the realization her unhealthy lifestyle of cigarettes, wine and excessive Frappuccinos wasn’t doing her any favors, and she quit cold turkey.

She also reevaluated her relationship with actor Leonardo DiCaprio, and ended things in 2005 when she realized she felt “alone” in their romance.

The star did find love, however, several years later with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. The couple tied the knot in 2009, and share two children.
