WRATH OF ‘KAN’

Trying to make sense of West’s pro-Don, pro-slavery rant

- BY BILL SANDERSON

Message sent with love: Kanye, what are Ye talking about?

Kanye West's wild post- Saturday Night Live rant praising the Trump adminis- tration and denying that Presi- dent Trump is a racist burned up social media on Sunday.

“I wanna cry right now, black man in America, sup- posed to keep what you're feelin' inside right now,” West said.

West — who, by the way, wants from now on to be known as Ye — went on, ranting about a “Democratic plan” to “take the fathers out of the homes and promote welfare.”

He went on: “So many times I've talked to a white person about this, and he'd say, ‘How could you love Trump? He's racist.' Well, if I was concerned about racism I would have moved out of America a long time He ago.'” also addressed memes relating his pro-Trump views to the movie “Get Out.” “You wanna see the sunken place? Okay, Im'a listen to y'all now. I'ma put my Superman cape on, because this means you can't tell me what to do ... You want the world to move forward? Try love.” Chris Rock recorded Kanye's post-show polemic to the cast and studio audience, which reportedly responded with boos. The rant wasn't broadcast as part of the show, but Rock's recording was shared widely on the internet.

No surprise — President Trump loved Kanye's lecture more than Matt Damon's show-opening caricature of Brett Kavanaugh.

Trump tweeted that he doesn't watch SNL himself — "even though I past hosted it" — had you forgotten?

But he loved that Kanye — the man once known as “Yeezy” — donned a “Make America Great Again” hat in his post-show rant.

"Word is that Kanye West, who put on a MAGA hat after the show (despite being told “no”), was great. He's leading the charge!" the President tweeted.

Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in. “Despite the BS they preach, the left isn't tolerant of any view that differs even slightly from their own,” he tweeted five hours and 43 minutes after his dad. “You obey or you're out.”

In a series of tweets Sunday, West added context — or at least, more words — in hope of explaining his SNL speech.

One tweet had a picture of himself on a private jet wearing a MAGA hat.

“this represents good and America becoming whole again,” the tweet said. “We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs. We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love.”

The 13th Amendment, ratified at the end of the Civil War, abolishes slavery — perhaps Ye missed the movie “Lincoln.”

Among those throwing shade on West was Bakari Sellers, an African-American lawyer from South Carolina.

“Idiocy is the willingness to sell out your culture for trinkets,” Sellers wrote. “@kanyewest doesn't understand reality. The same hat he is wearing is responsible for Jeff Sessions and taking us back a decade in Criminal Justice reform. @kanyewest is a clown who wants to sale albums. I'm good.”
